The Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management made the announcement to the Parliament before the Dutch government stepped down later the same day. This means that the cabinet is now in a caretaker status in which it continues to govern a deal with matters that need to be handled without delay.

The caretaker cabinet will take the necessary steps to stop levying the Eurovignette as of July 1^st 2026, when the Eurovignette will be replaced by the truck tolling system. That means, that the Netherlands will withdraw from the Eurovignette Treaty (signed with the other Eurovignette countries).
