First infringement procedure related to EETS Directive completed by EU Court
The European Commission has initiated several infringement procedures against Member States for incomplete or wrong transposition of the EETS Directive (EU) 2019/520. Where no satisfactory resolution is achieved, such cases are refered to the Court of Justice of the European Union. On 30 April 2026 the first case related to the EETS Directive was concluded. In case C-479/23, Commission v Bulgaria, the Court found that Bulgaria failed to adopt and notify the neceddary national measures to fully implement the EETS Directive on the interoperability of electronic road toll systems by the deadline of 19 October 2021.
