Celebrating 10 Years of the EETS Facilitation Platform
In 2026, the EETS Facilitation Platform (EFP) marks its 10-year anniversary and reflects on a decade of collaboration to improve electronic tolling accross Europe.
The origins of the EFP date back to the REETS project (2012-2015), a European Commission-funded initiative that laid the groundwork for a close cooperation between Toll Chargers and Service Providers with the aim to implement European Electronic Toll Service (EETS). While REETS delivered valuable results, and initiated pilot implementation of EETS it also showed that a continuous coordination and dialogue between stakeholders would be beneficial to move EETS forward.
This led to the creation of the EFP in 2016.
The platform is not set up as a formal legal entity, but as a flexible framework governed by its members through a Memorandum of Understanding. The objective has remained consistent: to support the implementation of EETS by enabling dialogue, sharing knowledge, and strengthening cooperation between the stakeholders in the road tolling industry.
Over the past decade, the network has grown steadily in both size and importance. Todaym the EFP consists of 49 member organizations from 18 countries.
Reaching this 10-year milestone is also an opportunity to look forward. The EFP will continue to provide a space where regulators, toll chargers, and service providers can align perspectives, address challenges, and contribute to the development of European mobility in the years ahead.
